Work-Based Learning & Internships
From classroom to career.
At Paramount High School, we know that learning is most powerful when students can apply it in real-world settings. That’s why we provide authentic, career-connected opportunities—including internships, mentorships, and project-based learning—that prepare every Pirate for success in college, career, and life.
What is Work-Based Learning?
Work-based learning connects academic coursework and career pathways with professional experiences in the community. Students gain:
- Hands-on training in industry-relevant skills
- Exposure to careers through guest speakers, job shadows, and workplace visits
- Professional mentoring from business and community partners
- Internships that link directly to CTE pathways
Career Pathways at PHS
Paramount High School offers multiple Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways that blend classroom instruction with applied learning:
- Engineering & Design (PLTW) – robotics, manufacturing, and architectural design
- Computer Science & IT – programming, cybersecurity, and applied computing
- Business & Finance – entrepreneurship, marketing, and accounting
- Health Science – sports medicine, biomedical, and patient care fields
- Culinary & Hospitality – food service, nutrition, and tourism
- Media, Arts & Communications – digital media, film, and publications
Students in these pathways participate in career fairs, industry tours, competitions, and community-based projects that bring learning to life.
Internships & Authentic Experiences
Our partnerships with local businesses, hospitals, nonprofits, and city agencies create opportunities for students to:
- Apply classroom knowledge in real workplace settings
- Build a professional resume and portfolio before graduation
- Develop soft skills—communication, teamwork, and leadership—that employers value
- Explore multiple career fields to make informed college and career choices
These experiences are supported by Paramount Unified School District’s commitment to equity, access, and real-world readiness.
Family & Community Partnerships
We believe work-based learning is a team effort. Families, educators, and community partners all play a role in helping students explore and pursue their goals. If you are a local business interested in offering internships or mentorships, please connect with our district office.
